Constance M. Achterberg
Born in Grand Island, Nebraska on December 28, 1929, Connie graduated from Northwestern University in 1950 with a B.S. in political science. She received her law degree from the University of Kansas in 1953. She worked for 4 years for the Kansas Highway Commission and went into private practice in Salina, Kansas in 1959.
Connie’s practice emphasizes estate planning, probate, tax planning, and business law. She has represented thousands of individuals and businesses over the last 51 years.
Connie has been very active in the Salina community and in the Kansas Bar Association. She was Saline County Counselor from 1973-1988. She was appointed and served on the Board of Governors for the Kansas University Law Society from 1994-1997. She is a member of the Saline/Ottawa County Bar Association, the KS Bar Association, and the KS Bar Foundation, serving as its president from 1987-1989. She was Chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Kansas from 1984-2004.
She has received numerous awards for her contributions to the legal profession, including the first recipient of the Kansas Bar Association’s Professionalism Award, the Kansas Bar Association’s Distinguished Service Award, and was the first female to receive the Distinguished Alumna Award from the University of Kansas School of Law.
Connie has been a member of the Kansas Bar Foundation since 1983 and served as its president from 1987-1989. She served on the Board of Directors for the University of Kansas School of Law from 1993-1997. She was appointed and served on the Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Committee from 1992-1994.
